The Summer Academy is co-sponsored by the Peace Education Institute and Skyline Urban Ministry, and is an original part of the JETS after school program.
This is a four-week day camp that is in session Monday-Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It has most frequently been held at Lambuth United Methodist Church at S.W. 38th & Shields.
Summer Academy uses a rotating curriculum that includes:
Peacemakers
Culture Bearers
Community Builders
Earth Keepers
This years Curriculum is Culture Bearers. During the month we will focus on 4 different cultures and belief systems. As Culture Bearers, we ask why God has created all this diversity and attempt to be ourselves in the best way possible.
Four themes for each of the 4 years that a child might participate.
Daily activities include a breakfast snack and hot lunch, art, singing, and lots of participatory planning activities.
Academy participants swim once a week at the OKC Community College.
Each of the 4 curricula emphasize team work, non-violent conflict resolution, personal responsibility, recognition of and appreciation for the diversity of the human family.
