The Peace Education Institue is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2007 in the State of Oklahoma for the purpose of providing educational opportunities to children, youth and adults that will contribute to non-violence in all aspects of living and in encourage people to become active in non-violent social change.
Our co-directors are Conna Wilkinson and Nathaniel Batchelder.
CONNA WILKINSON holds a degree in Religious Education from Oklahoma City University. As an employee of a United Methodist urban outreach ministry in Oklahoma City from 1987- 2007, she developed curricula and programming for children and youth in high-risk urban situations. While there, she became aware of the societal pressures on all of us to consider violence an acceptible, even desireable, option for problem-solving for individuals as well groups and nations. Her commitment today is to offer and support opportunities for Oklahomans and others to experience training and education that will raise awareness, movtivate action, and equip people to create a more peaceful culture in America.
NATHANIEL BATCHELDER has been the director of the Peace House in Oklahoma City since 1986. He is a peace activist, lobbyist, and community organizer who has been central to the peace-making community in Oklahoma City. He is available for public speaking, workshops, and moral support for those who wish to become more active in the social and political events of out state and nation. The Peace Education Institute operates under the 501(c) 3 designation of the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma, and because of that relationship, all donations to the Peace Education Institute are tax deductible.
We are located on a beautiful 30-acre tract of land just 3 miles east of I-35 at Hefner Road. Buildings are under construction, but there are still wonderful camping opportuities, trails to walk, and a big fire pit.
